Things to do around Atlanta this week.

The Art Institute of Atlanta’s “Wines and Spirits of the World” Class, April 19 – May 24. This class is a partnership with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). It is offered over six Monday evenings and covers a wide variety of wines as well as spirits and liqueurs. The fee for the six classes is $750 and includes a final exam and text book. Individual classes can be taken for $135 per session. TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off, April 19. Ashley Vicos from McDonough, GA will be participating in competition that will air on TLC at 10 p.m. The three competitors will be given nine hours to make a show piece cake. The best one will win $10,000.

Atlanta Wine School’s “For Beginners Only”Class, April 20. This class will focus on the very basics of wine like pairings and learning the vocabulary of the art. There will be wine tastings. The Cook’s Warehouse’s XAGAVE Cooking Class, April 20. This free class will teach students how to use the artificially sweetener made from agave nectar, XAGAVE, to make different kinds of fruity salsas. The class is free to the public and starts at 6 p.m. It should last around an hour and will take place at the Cook’s Warehouse in Brookhaven. The Tasting Room’s Benefit for The Cancer Warriors April 21. A ten dollar donation is required at the door. Inside there will be discounts on diner in the resturant, raffles, games and wine and scotch tasting tables. Guitarist/Vocalist Wade Hudson will be playing music. “Toast to South Africa” Wine Tasting at the Marietta Wine Market, April 21. They will present wines from Graham Beck, Chandon, Jordan, Piper Heidseick and Moet. The tasting will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The cost is only $10 and the proceeds will go toward Dr, Goods Homeless Pets Foundation. For more information call 770-919-1574.
