About this painting:

If you know anything about me at all, you know that I have a deep connection to Sandhill Cranes. I can hear their call from miles away during their migrations - inside with the windows closed. I titled this painting “Cranes are Calling” and it’s perhaps my favorite painting that I’ve created so far. There is something very pleasing to the eye in the way the cranes take up 2/3 of the space, diagonally, and the rest is negative space. I really like the balance.

When I finished this painting, Sandhill Cranes had just reached the Platte River for a short break, where they find mates, reconnect with family, and fill their bellies before continuing their journey further north. More than 600,000 of them at one time, all in this small stretch of the river. I’m sure they appreciated the open airways that covid-19 permitted in those cold spring days of March and April. Signed and dated on the back.

This painting was one of twenty eight pieces created for a gallery show, “Parliament of Fowl”, where all other twenty seven pieces were sold.
