There are places that are designed for kids, and then there are places that you feel guilty bringing them. Somewhere in between is WISTERIA, a restaurant with a grown-up vibe and grown-up food, but where the staff is happy to provide a high chair, and even cook your kids some chicken fingers if nothing on the New Southern menu floats their boats. There are no entertainers in giant mice outfits, or rooms full of plastic balls, or even crayons and cute kid’s menus, so this isn’t the place to bring the screamers or the hyperactive set. But when you can’t afford a sitter and you’re sick of pizza, your kids will be treated as people rather than lepers at Wisteria. And you’ll get a dang fine meal as part of the bargain. less...

DAKOTA BLUE in Grant Park actually encourages kids rather than tolerates them. A whole corner of toys and coloring books to keep your child occupied proves the point. DAKOTA BLUE in Grant Park actually encourages kids rather than tolerates them. A whole corner of toys and coloring books to keep your child occupied proves the point. The booths are made from squirm-friendly wide wooden planks, and there’s plenty on the menu that should be acceptable to finicky little eaters. At the very least, they should be pleased with the gooey home-style desserts. less...

Intown parents are passing the foodie torch to their progeny at OSTERIA 832. This Highland spot boasts a kid's menu that is more than just chicken fingers and fries. Children can choose an 8-inch pizza with one topping, a child's portion of the pasta pomodoro or noodles with butter and cheese. Adults should check out the antipasto, the highlight of which is a piquant roasted eggplant relish. The thin pizzas are nearly perfect when crowned with caramelized onions and salty slices of prosciutto. Be sure to grab a tumbler of the house red wine while waiting for a table or a highchair. BUCA DI BEPPO is big on families and welcomes them with funky, colorful decor, family-style service and ample, comfy seating. Dig into oversized plates of traditional Italian favorites or slabs of pizza piled high. Walls are crowded with family photos and posters of Sinatra. The Pope's Table, one of several themed rooms, seats up to 18 people and is flanked by velvet pope paintings, columns and a pope bust that swivels. And we all know, kids love popes. 1284 W. Paces Ferry Road 404-233-2888 Whoever said "you can't please all of the people all of the time must have tried to take an extended family out for dinner. If you're in such a situation and have to please multiple generations, consider the OK Cafe. Older folks will appreciate the blue plate specials and old-fashioned cooking (the menu includes meatloaf and chicken pot pies). Youngsters will dig the quirky Native American animal statues and, in one dining room, a huge papier-mache money tree. Trend-conscious 'tweeners will be impressed with appetizers like the sweet potato chips with Maytag blue cheese dressing. Waits can be long, but the results are better than OK. less...
