Teen members of the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta will be getting access to dozens of computer tablets as part of the city’s Diplomas2Degrees college readiness program. The Pew Research Center says nearly one-in-five teens can’t complete homework assignments due to a lack of high-speed internet at home. The challenge is worse among Black students and those from low-income households, a press release stated, adding, “Technology access is one of the biggest barriers to students’ academic success.” In addition, program sponsor McDonald’s will create an innovative computer lab at the club’s Austell base “as a safe space for students to socialize while furthering their studies.” bgca.org
