NEWS BRIEF: Delta schedules impossible number of flights, pilot says
Delta is … not really ready at all, it seems
Delta Airlines is routinely booking more flights than it can possibly handle, causing an increasing number of cancellations and delays nationwide. That’s according to pilot Evan Baach, lamenting a shortage of personnel to fly the airplanes. “We don’t have enough pilots and the company is scheduling more flights than they can fly,” he told a reporter.
Some of the Atlanta-based carrier’s pilots claim they’re clocking record amounts of overtime, but the problems persist, and other airlines are affected as well. Last Thursday was reportedly an industry maelstrom, with over 10,000 flights getting canceled or delayed at multiple national airports.
Airlines are obligated to rebook passengers on the next available flight if their original one is canceled. Failing that, full refunds must be given. “Canceling a flight is always our last resort, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience to their travel plans,” Delta management said in a statement.
